Music & Creativity

Creative expression sits at the heart of school life at St. Andrew's. Through music, performance and creative art - both children and staff find joy in expressing themselves.

Music

Learning music is a central part of school life and supports all aspects of a child’s learning, from the physical action of using an instrument to the mathematical skills needed to keep a pulse.

We strive to enrich our children’s lives through music including a weekly song assembly, classroom music lessons and opportunities for every child to learn how to play a range of musical instruments including the recorder, xylophone, percussion and the ukelele.

Further opportunities are available for the children to learn instruments including drums, string, brass and woodwind, with specialist teachers visiting each week. We have a wonderful school choir and orchestra with opportunities to perform with other schools in the local community.

Our staff choir performs at special events throughout the year, and members of the staff team are part of the school orchestra.

Performing Arts

St. Andrew's creates a range of opportunities for the children to get involved in drama, dance and the performing arts. Through seasonal performances, after-school clubs, and competitions, both inside school (e.g ‘St. Andrew's Got Talent’) and within our wider community (e.g. ‘Let’s Dance’). Providing these opportunities, allows the children to experiment in different kinds of self-expression, increasing confidence and building important life skills.

Art

Developing fine motor skills, aptitudes for design and a sense of individuality are just some of the crucial benefits of creating artwork through crafting, painting, collaging, drawing and modelling. We make space for our children to let their imaginations run wild in our art and design classes, year group projects and in our creativity and crafting after-school clubs.
